We live in a world of competing voices, shifting values, endless distractions, and conflicting definitions of what is true and good. James describes the danger of becoming “double-minded and unstable in all his ways.” That is the opposite of the life God desires for us.
In 1 John, the aging apostle writes to Christians facing their own confusing world of competing voices. Again and again, John brings them back to the foundational realities of the Christian life—Jesus Christ, truth, fellowship, obedience, love, discernment, assurance, and faith.
