Curriculum

Our curriculum is theme-based and developmentally/age-appropriate for all classes. Character education themes and connected Bible verses are part of our daily program in all classes. Our day consists of a combination of structured activities and free play.

Learning Through Play

All Dunwoody Baptist Preschool classes incorporate learning centers, circle time, and games to teach language arts, math, and spatial concepts. Classroom centers could include Dramatic Play, Blocks, Sensory Table, Reading, Music, Manipulatives/Puzzles, Science, Writing, Social Studies, Free Art/Easel, and Computer. Snack, lunch, and playground time are also part of every day.

Integrated Bible Curriculum

Our Bible curriculum was developed by our Chapel Teacher, Miriam Buechter, and Lead 3's teacher, Laura Fuqua. It offers a three-year scope and sequence. We start the school year in the Old Testament with Creation, Noah’s Ark, and the Birth of Jesus. In January, we move to the New Testament with the life and miracles of Jesus and His resurrection. Children who stay in our preschool for at least three years will not only have the key events of the Bible taught and reinforced, but they will also learn about most of the people and their stories in the bible.

Creative Curriculum

In our babies, toddlers, 2’s, and 3’s classes, The Creative Curriculum with our integrated Bible Curriculum is the foundation for learning. The Creative Curriculum is a research-based curriculum that goes beyond rote learning and focuses on big ideas, interesting hands-on projects, and individual children’s passions and needs. “Through this curriculum, preschoolers learn to be confident and creative thinkers.” Please visit their website for more information on The Creative Curriculum or to reference the above-quoted Creative Curriculum information.

 Saxon Pre-K

Our 4’s Pre-K classes have Saxon Pre-K Curriculum with our integrated Bible curriculum.

Saxon Kindergarten Math & Phonics for Young 5’s

Our Young 5’s class curriculum includes Saxon Kindergarten Math and Phonics coupled with our integrated Bible curriculum. Saxon Kindergarten Math curriculum is an incremental-based or one lesson at a time learning curriculum. Each lesson builds upon the next lesson. As new lessons are taught, old lessons are constantly reviewed. “Saxon Kindergarten Phonics and Spelling engages the whole student by offering a comprehensive, multisensory approach to mastering critical foundations skills.” As with Saxon Math, Saxon Phonics and Spelling focuses on “continual and incremental review of concepts throughout the school year to ensure long-term success.” Please visit their website for more information on Saxon Curriculum or to reference the above-quoted Saxon information.

Developmental Checklists

Our children are evaluated twice each year using age-appropriate developmental checklists, and then this information is shared with parents during the Fall and Spring conferences. DBP also communicates with our parents through monthly newsletters, regular emails, and our school website, and each classroom has its own Class Dojo share site.
