Missions

At DBC, we use our God-given abilities and resources to impact the lives of others, both in Dunwoody and around the world.

VISION

Our vision is to see a disciple-making movement among the nations. Missions is a ministry that proclaims the gospel and makes disciples, while also meeting needs. Missions prioritizes people and people groups who have little to no access to the gospel.

PURPOSE

Our purpose is to see God worshipped among all people groups by making disciples, equipping them for ministry, and developing them to multiply. The DBC Mission Council directs the human and financial resources entrusted to it toward this goal.

MOBILIZE

We send and support DBC members in cross-cultural service from Dunwoody to the ends of the earth. Partnerships with ministries include the volunteer, prayer, service, and financial support of DBC members.

DBC MISSIONS AT A GLANCE

Jesus declared, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8)." Our Jerusalem is local missions in Dunwoody, GA. Our Judea is regional missions in Greater Atlanta. Our Samaria is national missions across the USA. Our Ends of the Earth involve international missions outside the United States.

DBC prioritizes missions with 17% from all offerings received by the church, and this has been a foundational commitment of DBC since its beginning in 1964. These resource fund missionaries and ministries bringing the love and words of Christ to communities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Financial support for missions ministries are grouped into three categories:

BLESS  A one-time funding support in a small amount for individuals or organizations. These ministries do not have to be within a DBC missions focus, but are valued by church members or have a fruitful ministry. Up to $3,600 annually. Assisted 9 ministries in 2020.

CATALYZE  A three-to-five-year commitment of support to individuals or organizations who are expanding their work in close alignment with the focus of DBC missions. These ministries are working towards a goal of sustainability. Up to $12k annually. Assisted 22 ministries in 2020.

OWN  An ongoing commitment of five years or longer to individuals or organizations that are focused on the unreached or for mobilizing DBC members in missions. Up to $20k annually. Assisted 10 ministries in 2020.

The DBC Missions Council prioritizes funding based on the focus-area of the missions ministry:

  • Ministry/projects making disciples and planting churches among global unreached – 10/40 window, diaspora
  • Sending and supporting of DBC members on short, mid or long term assignment
  • Cross cultural disciple making and/or church planting locally
  • Disciple making and/or church planting locally, not cross cultural
  • Disciple making and/or church planting globally not among unreached
  • Mercy/compassion-based ministries without strong gospel proclamation globally or locally
  • These prioritization levels are used only as guidelines; they help to ensure that the Missions Council is grounded in the great commission found in Matthew 28:16-20 to make disciples of all nations, baptizing believers, and teaching them to obey Jesus Christ. We invite you to explore the many ministries supported by DBC here and select one that you can begin prayer for in your daily walk with Christ.
